Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT) is gathering expertise in the EdTech sector by acquiring two startups based in the canton of Zurich. Dybuster AG is being acquired by SIT directly, while Propulsion Academy is being acquired by SIT Alemira, a part of SIT.
Dybuster, a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) has developed software for digital learning. According to a press release, this will now be further developed together with SIT Alemira. It will focus on learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. Together with SIT Alemira, the plan is to raise awareness of Dybuster’s products outside of Switzerland as well.
Propulsion Academy provides further education in the area of IT. With the acquisition, the startup’s offerings for individuals and businesses are to be expanded. According to a press release, the plan is also to make Propulsion Academy more well-known abroad too. There are plans to open sites in Munich and Singapore in 2022. The aim is to have more than 2,000 graduates per year across all sites in total by 2025.
SIT was founded in 2019 and is an international education and research institute established by entrepreneurs and run by researchers. SIT tackles global challenges in the areas of science, technology and education. The SIT ecosystem comprises SIT Campus, SIT StartGarden, SIT Autonomous, SIT Capital, SIT Alemira, SIT Academy, SIT Rolos and Jacobs University Bremen, among other things. The latter is a private university in which SIT acquired a majority stake at the end of September.
