The €1.5-million project is part of the EU research programme Horizon 2020. It was formed to assist decision-makers in creating new framework conditions in the area of blockchain and ensure that the EU – including Switzerland – plays a leading role in blockchain technology.
“Our task is to provide politicians with the information that the need on blockchain in order to make informed decisions,” said Alexander Denzler, head of the project team at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
Politicians are in a very difficult situation, added Denzler. “They have to create the legal framework for a technology that is very complex and that they barely understand as laymen.”
The Lucerne School of Information Technology at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts is the only Swiss institution that is a member of the new EU research network. The other are the Observatory at Imperial College London, the Knowledge Media Institute at the Open University, and the University of Southampton, all of which are in the U.K. American software firm ConsenSys is the industrial partner.
The Lucerne School of Information Technology is located in Rotkreuz in the Greater Zurich Area.
