Uri strengthens position as alpine technology location

The canton of Uri is a cable railway paradise, with 37 cableways and seven ski resorts. This is also reflected by the economic location’s mix of industries: according to a press release from the canton of Uri, alpine technology is “a strong niche with several specialist companies that are nationally and internationally renowned.”

Now, the canton plans to further strengthen its position as a location for alpine technology. To do so, it has taken various measures, such as creating the website alpintechnik.ch. It aims to make existing competences more visible, build synergies, and address the workforce and companies in this field.

In its press release, the canton of Uri highlights several successful companies from the field of alpine technology, which are also depicted on the new website. They include: Kässbohrer Schweiz AG from Altdorf, which specializes in snow groomers; Remec AG from Schattdorf, a provider of solutions for the operation and maintenance of cableways and other systems; Wipfli AG from Flüelen, specializing in services for construction site logistics, cable rope transportation, and crane work; and SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun, which not only provides the largest winter sports area in the canton, but also offers a product testing platform.

In addition to the launch of the new website, the canton plans to develop further measures to strengthen the alpine technology location together with companies. Uri’s business development department also presented the location’s advantages in mid-October at the D-A-CH cable car conference in Innsbruck.
