Oetwil am See ZH - Sulzer & Schmid Laboratories AG develop drones used to inspect rotor blades on wind turbines. The Turkish company Ülke Enerji has now licensed the technology for use on its domestic wind energy market.

Sulzer & Schmid Laboratories AG has developed drones that can be used to inspect the rotor blades of wind turbines. The drones fly around the rotor blades and send back high-resolution images. In conjunction with the Ticino-based company NNAISENSE, Sulzer Schmid is also working on making the drones even smarter, with the aim that they could, for example, identify defects on the rotor blades and categorize them by degree of severity.

The drone technology developed by Sulzer Schmid is now also being used in Turkey. Ülke Enerji has licensed the technology and intends to use it for its operations in wind parks, as detailed in a press release. The Turkish company specializes in the operation and maintenance of wind turbines. Its client base includes companies such as Nordex, Siemens and Vestas. According to the press release, Ülke Enerji is set to become the only company in Turkey to conduct wind turbine inspections with the help of drones.

Sulzer Schmid was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Oetwil am See in the Greater Zurich Area.
