Zurich - The Swiss Startup Group has successfully closed the sale of one of its portfolio firms Struckd. An unnamed US technology company has now acquired the start-up’s first, and so far largest, mobile games development platform.

The Zurich-based gaming start-up Struckd now has new owners. Struckd was formed in 2016 in the wake of the first application phase of the Swiss Startup Group (SSUG). The largest privately financed venture capital platform in Switzerland established Struckd together with its two founders Silvan Bauser und Flurin Jenal. As detailed in a press release, SSUG chaired the Board of Directors at Struckd from 2018 and steered the company through various challenging periods.

Their vision was to democratize the development of mobile games. The team built the first, and so far largest, platform for this purpose. According to the press release, the platform now has a catalog of more than one million games, which can be created using a game editor. As such, this means that anyone can develop their own games on a smartphone.

At the beginning of the year, Daniel Reichert replaced co-founder Bauser as CEO. As the press release explains further, in view of Reichert’s success, it was no surprise when a US tech company made an approach to Struckd three months ago with a purchase offer. The deal was concluded as a silent transaction, with no further details disclosed for the time being due to strategic reasons.
