Every two years, the Association of Industry and Commerce of the canton of Schaffhausen (IVS) and ITS – the center for industry and technology in Schaffhausen award the IVS Prize for Innovation of the Schaffhauser Platzbanken. The prize is presented in recognition of the development and successful marketing of an innovative product by companies based in the Schaffhausen economic area. The criteria for awarding the prize include, among other aspects, the profitability and the economic potential of the innovation.

This year, a total of 23 companies competed for the award with TTS Inova from Thayngen in the canton of Schaffhausen eventually emerging victorious to claim a check for 10,000 Swiss francs, IVS writes in the press release. The family company, which specializes in passements and technical textiles, was awarded the prize for its elastic geothermal probe. “Our product is food-compliant, so it can also be used in areas where you would otherwise not be able to install a geothermal heat pump”, comments Simon Bernath, who owns the company, in the press release.

The start-up Imnoo from Buchberg in the canton of Schaffhausen finished in second place with its application for milled and turned parts based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). “Calculating technical parts is time-consuming and requires a great deal of specialist knowledge. In an SME, it is not uncommon for only a few people – sometimes even only the managing director – to have this type of expertise”, explains Inmo co-founder Jonas Albergatti.

With its sensor for railway transport wagons, Savvy Telematic Systems AG recorded a third-placed finish. In the last competition in 2019, the company from the cantonal capital won first prize for a sensor to automatically detect wheel flats on railroad cars. In addition, the restaurant Tanne Schaffhausen received a special award for its ethical and ecological business model.
