Zurich - SwissDrones Operations AG now has a European drone operator license. This is the most far-reaching certificate under European drone regulations, enabling the company to self-authorize its drones’ flight operations in all EASA countries.

SwissDrones now has the right to self-authorize the flights of its unmanned helicopter systems in all countries that are regulated by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This is the highest approval that can be achieved under European drone regulations. It also includes beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights. This is the sixth time that the EASA Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC) has been issued. SwissDrones has received this license from the Maltese civil aviation directorate (Transport Malta).

Dr. Analiza Abdilla from Transport Malta is quoted in a press release from SwissDrones Operations AG, stating: “SwissDrones have demonstrated a highly professional approach throughout the entire process and we look forward to further supporting the development of their operations within and beyond the Maltese islands.”

According to the information provided, SwissDrones plans to perform ongoing BVLOS flight testing campaigns in Malta. The geographical conditions are said to be ideal for this as there is ample airspace for long-range tests with real-life conditions, including in coastal areas and over the ocean. Furthermore, Malta is clearly affirming its support for this high-growth industry.
