Altdorf – Kässbohrer, a Germany manufacturer of snowcats, has chosen Werkmatt Uri in Altdorf as the site for its new Swiss headquarters. It will create some 30 skilled jobs beginning in summer 2019.

Kässbohrer Switzerland signed a purchase agreement with the Economic Directorate of the canton of Uri on Thursday to acquire a 6,000-square-metre industrial plot in Werkmatt Uri. A total of 30 new jobs will be created in the areas of administration, purchasing, service, training, final assembly and production of special vehicles.

Kässbohrer chose the location because of its proximity to similar industries. Thanks to an accumulation of expertise in winter sports technology, a kind of centre of expertise has been created in Central Switzerland. Kässbohrer manufactures vehicles for downhill and cross-country skiing.

Another advantage is customer proximity. “Thanks to its central location, we will be able to reach all our customers in less than 2.5 hours,” said Remo Bulgheroni, Managing Director of Kässbohrer Switzerland. Until now, the company has been serving the Swiss market from Möriken in the canton of Aargau.

Werkmatt Uri is located southwest of the Altdorf railway station and is one of the largest land reserves in the Uri Valley. It has major potential for industry, trade and service providers, and the public sector is investing tens of millions of Swiss francs into planning and developing the area. The land is sold by the canton of Uri. Kässbohrer is the first to purchase a plot.
