Mitral valve insufficiency and mitral insufficiency are among the most common causes of heart failure. Current surgical treatments involve open-chest access, but the procedure is set to become more efficient and less invasive thanks to CoreMedic’s new technology.
The company’s ChordArt repair system facilitates a minimally invasive repair procedure of the mitral valves on a beating heart. It has now been successfully deployed in a first-in-man operation, according to a statement.
Alberto Weber of Zurich’s Herzzentrum Hirslanden, who conducted the operation, explained that the less invasive procedure was also the fastest repair he had ever witnessed.
CoreMedic was founded in 2012 as a spin-off from the University Hospital Zurich and University Hospital Bern. Last year, the German life sciences investor SHS poured 125 million euros into the startup company.
