Zurich - The largest blockchain hackathon in Switzerland will attempt to find effective solutions to specific issues at the end of October. The hybrid event will take place simultaneously in Zurich, Lugano and Geneva. Around 500 participants are expected to take part.

The Swiss Blockchain Hackathon is scheduled to take place on October 29–31. This is the largest event of its kind in Switzerland and is being organized as both a digital and in-person event across three separate sites simultaneously together with the partner Trust Square: at Ambassador House in Zurich, at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Italian Switzerland (SUPSI) in Lugano in the canton of Ticino and at the University of Geneva. As a reward for their efforts, participants have the chance to get their hands on cash and material prizes in addition to paid-out tokens.

In teams, the participants will work both on and offline to develop functioning prototypes across a period of around 60 hours. According to a press release, the outstanding knowledge within the Swiss blockchain community is to be transferred to specific applications and business models in various industries. “This will help Switzerland to expand its pioneering role in the adaptation of new technologies”, comments Marc Degen, co-founder of Trust Square, adding that: “We are proud of the Swiss Blockchain Hackathon. The last event was a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to the second edition”. The specific problems that the teams will be tasked with solving are to be published online over the next few weeks.

The event organizers are anticipating that around 500 developers from across Switzerland and further afield will take part in the event. The hackathon is held within the framework of the NTN Innovation Booster – Blockchain Nation Switzerland platform. This multi-year funding program was initiated by Innosuisse, the Swiss Agency for Innovation Promotion.
