The chip and sensor manufacturer u-blox has announced that it has entered into a partnership with the Japanese firm Softbank and its subsidiary Ales. Together, the partners intend to collaborate in the area of GNSS augmentation services. The aim of the partnership is to improve the precision and accuracy of GNSS services.
According to the information from u-blox, GNSS improvement services are currently tailored to specific countries and regions. The goal is now to facilitate a rollout of such services across a wider range of countries. Accordingly, a global infrastructure for the improvement of position data is to be set up.
According to the press release, all three companies have already amassed experience in this area. For example, Softbank and Ales offer services in Japan, while u-blox is active in the USA and across Europe.
U-blox was founded in the form of a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) more than 20 years ago. Since then, it has developed into a leading company in the area of technological innovations. Alongside the headquarters in Thalwil in the canton of Zurich, the company operates offices in various European locations in addition to Asia and the USA.
